News: Search Engine Firm, Semanti Corp., Unveils French-Language Semantic Service

Stockholm, Sweden - (Website Hosting Directory) - October 15, 2008 - Search engine firm, Semanti Corp., has released its new French-language, semantic Internet service, to enhance the online search engine experience and provide a more effective solution.

The French version for its flagship product, SemantiFind, was revealed at the ETRE08 conference in Stockholm, Sweden. Leveraging unique semantic technology, SemantiFind is a Web service that enhances the search engine experience by letting users indicate the precise meaning of their search queries. The new French version will be available in November. Customers will be able to search in their language of choice -- initially English and soon French -- and can choose to see search results that have been labeled in either their own language or in one or more other languages.

Much of the content on the web is in English, and although many individuals for whom English is not a first language can still benefit from English language content, searching in their own preferred language may be easier. It is SemantiFind's semantic technology that makes this possible, because the service understands the meaning of words in more than one language.

Previous attempts at solutions to improve search have required users to switch to a new service. But SemantiFind works within preferred search engines, and offers a drop-down list of specific terms and definitions that help people select what they mean, such as 'Visa' the travel document instead of 'Visa' the credit card. By understanding a user's meaning, SemantiFind returns more meaningful and relevant information and saves people the hassle of sifting through unwanted pages or reformulating their query to find results that might be buried.

However, users can still see the normal results their search engine would return in addition to the SemantiFind results, giving individuals ongoing choice and ease with how they currently search. Currently, searching the Web requires people to guess what words and phrases the search engine requires to find the most accurate and complete information.

Search engines cannot understand the meaning of a web page; they can only match search terms to words on a page. If the user wants to find information about the 'mileage' of a specific model of car, they may get pages about fuel economy or they may get pages about cars with a certain amount of miles on them.

The user has to guess how the search engine retrieves information rather than using the words and phrases the person prefers. SemantiFind understands there are different ways to say the same thing, so consumers don't have to guess which words will yield the most meaningful results.

Bruce Johnson, CEO of Semanti Corporation remarked, ''Building on the success with early adopters of our English-language version, it's very important to us to cater to French-speaking communities. Over time, and driven by user demand, we expect to roll out SemantiFind in several languages.''

SemantiFind is available now for download at http://www.semantifind.com. It is a free service to consumers. The product is currently available for use with Google, but expects to have additional search engine support available by the end of the year.

The board cited Yahoo!'s global brand, large worldwide audience, significant recent investments in advertising platforms and future growth prospects, free cash flow and earnings potential, as well as its substantial unconsolidated investments, as factors in its decision. Yahoo!'s board of directors is continuing to evaluate all of its strategic alternatives to maximize value for Yahoo! stockholders.

Key sources of projected growth in revenue and operating cash flow cited in the presentation include $1.9 billion in added revenue ex-TAC over the next three years from display/video advertising, as Yahoo! expects its growth to outpace the currently anticipated market rate of growth in online display/video advertising. The Company also expects $1.4 billion in added search revenue, implying growth essentially in line with the anticipated market rate of growth in search advertising.

The Yahoo! investor presentation also reiterated its principal strategies, which were to enhance an already strong position as a leading starting point for users of the Internet and to be a 'must buy' proposition for the most online advertisers.

The presentation noted that, in addition to Yahoo!'s strong projected operating results over the next three years, the Company's strategic assets in Asia, including its stakes in Yahoo! Japan, Alibaba Group and Gmarket, its strong cash position, and its early leadership positions in mobile Internet and emerging markets, combine to create significant equity value.
