News: BlueFur.com Web Hosting, Debuts Anti-Phishing Tool for Outlook
Surrey, British Colubmia - (Website Hosting Directory) - May 21, 2007 - Canadian web hosting provider, BlueFur.com, has introduced Phish Phinder anti-phishing plug-in for Microsoft Outlook. The tool, currently available free of charge, allows users to more accurately determine whether emails are fraudulent or forged.
Phish Phinder works by scanning all incoming emails for HTML links. It then extracts the target location of each link, and places it in brackets next to the original anchor text of the link. By doing so, users can examine whether or not links are pointing to legitimate sites, and not merely fraudulent clones designed to collect, or phish, sensitive information. The tool was developed internally by the company over approximately two weeks, and is compatible with Outlook 2000, 2003, and 2007.
Lisa Jones, President of BlueFur.com remarked, ''We released this tool because we were surprised that a similar tool has not already been made available. While many organizations focus on web browsers or attacking hosts, we decided to empower the end user and let them know what they are clicking on before they click on it. As an online business, we are very concerned with the rise of phishing and other forms of fraud, and we will continue to look for new ways to protect our customers.''
Currently, phishing emails and sent to victims, purporting to be from leading banking institutions or online merchants, such as PayPal or eBay. The emails direct victims to verify their account information by visiting a web page and entering in their sensitive account information, such as their username and password. Once the information is supplied, victims can be subject to stolen funds or even identify theft.
Mr. Jones continued, ''By all accounts, this form of fraud affects tens of thousands of victims each year in North America alone, and it needs to be taken very seriously. We hope our tool provides a simple yet effective weapon in the battle against Internet fraud.''
BlueFur.com (http://www.bluefur.com), a Surrey, British Columbia based Web solutions provider serving well over 5,000 clients, has been in the hosting market since January 2003. The company offers a wide variety of Web development services, including domain name registration, email hosting, Web hosting, merchant accounts, reseller backup software, VoIP services, and targeted Web traffic.

News: Search Engine, Developed by Nuclear Scientist, Says No to Cookies
New York, New York - (Website Hosting Directory) - May 21, 2007 -
Search engine, hakia.com, has developed a mechanism that does not insert cookies or use tracking mechanisms on computers by default, to understand search meanings. In the future, new hakia.com features will ask users' explicit permission to insert cookies if there is a need for it.
According to Dr. Riza Berkan, CEO of hakia.com, ''hakia.com algorithms understand the meaning of text by sentence analysis. This eliminates the need for cookies as we do not need to track user behavior to improve our algorithm. In some instances, when a user wants a personalized interface, for example, a cookie can be an added convenience. However, it is a private matter, up to the user, not up to us as a search provider.''
Founder of hakia, Dr. Berkan is a nuclear scientist by training with a specialization in artificial intelligence and fuzzy logic. He is the author of several articles in this area, including the book Fuzzy Systems Design Principles published by IEEE in 1997. Between 1990 and 2000, Dr. Berkan worked as a subcontractor to the US Government and handled multiple Lockheed Martin Energy Systems and Westinghouse projects involving the Y-12 Plant, Savannah River Plant, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. Berkan holds a B.S. in Physics from Hacettepe University, Turkey and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence.
hakia, developed its first meaning-based search engine, utilizing a new infrastructure, designed to deliver the most relevant search results. Founded in 2004, the company is privately held and based in New York City.
