News: Web Hosting Firm, Single Hop, Debuts Hardware Upgrade
News Related to the Web Hosting Industry

Chicago, Illinois - (Website Hosting Directory) - July 28, 2008 - Web hosting provider, Single Hop, Inc., is upgrading all of its server configurations, to a minimum of 2GB of RAM for new clients.

The company will also be giving existing clients a free upgrade to 2GB of RAM. The resulting hardware upgrades will allow SingleHop's customer's servers to run at levels exceeding industry standards.

Zak Boca, President and CEO of SingleHop noted, ''Roughly 40% of the 1,000+ servers we have online right now have less than 2 GB of RAM. In today's computing environment, websites simply need more resources to function better and load faster. Because our customers tend to stay with us for a long time we want to insure that they continually receive access to the best hardware and software options available. That's why we have decided that we will offer a free RAM upgrade to every single SingleHop customer, regardless of how much they spend, to 2 GB of RAM. In addition, we will upgrade our entire server line to 2 GB of RAM - so that every new server we sell also meets this minimum memory requirement. We will do that without raising prices.''

SingleHop announced the RAM upgrade just days after the launch of their new first-of-its-kind web portal, LEAP webtop. LEAP offers clients the ability to manage their dedicated servers in a desktop-style interface, directly from their browser. The LEAP webtop is yet another example of SingleHop's commitment to providing the most sophisticated and robust servers in the market, allowing customers to focus on running their businesses in a stress free technology environment.

To take part in the RAM upgrade offer, existing SingleHop customers will have to schedule their upgrade by logging into their LEAP control panel and clicking on the "RAM Upgrade Offer" icon.

SingleHop, Inc., is a full service managed dedicated hosting provider that was founded by Zak Boca, who along with Dan Ushman started midPhase Services, Inc., a shared web managed hosting company that services over 75,000 websites. SingleHop and midPhase maintain entirely separate support teams and operations; however, customers are able to take advantage of the combined buying power of midPhase, which results in an overall savings on top of the line hardware, and bandwidth. The cornerstone of SingleHop managed hosting is the a la Carte Server Management Program, which is a full-array of transparent management services that were designed, and tested to allow business customers to tailor their level of support to their needs or expertise. The model was tested on midPhase's dedicated client base of over 500 servers, and it was decided to create SingleHop, a managed dedicated hosting company that would focus entirely on managed services via the la Carte Server Management Program.

News: Web Hosting Virtualization Application, Integrates With Microsoft Hyper-V
News Related to the Web Hosting Industry

Los Gatos, California - (Website Hosting Directory) - July 25, 2008 - Provider of cross-platform virtualization solutions, Transitive Corporation, has revealed that its QuickTransit software, will run within Microsoft's Hyper-V, the Windows Server 2008 hypervisor recently released.

Ian Robinson, Vice-President of marketing for Transitive noted, ''QuickTransit and Hyper-V are a great fit. The combination of a leading cross-platform virtualization solution and a robust, affordable hypervisor integrated into the most broadly-deployed server operating system is a 'win-win' for enterprise customers. Used in Hyper-V, QuickTransit allows thousands of additional non-Windows applications to run on the latest Windows Server 2008 systems without the costs, delays or disruption of porting.''

The product combination is hoped to allow enterprise customers to run Solaris/SPARC applications on the latest Windows-based servers without porting or recompilation, resulting in cost-effective new solutions for scalability, high availability, disaster recovery and legacy application re-hosting.

To run native Solaris/SPARC software on Windows Server 2008 requires deployment of a guest operating system such as Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 in a Hyper-V virtual machine, with Transitive's QuickTransit 1.5 for Solaris/SPARC-to-Linux/x86-64. A broad range of Solaris/SPARC executable files can then be run within that virtual machine, and these applications can interoperate with native Windows applications running on the same server. All of the considerable benefits of server virtualization, such as consolidation and rapid provisioning, are thereby available for legacy Solaris/SPARC workloads migrated from older RISC-based hardware.

To address the most typical customer deployments, Transitive offers three configurations of its QuickTransit product line: QuickTransit Workstation is intended for use on desktop and laptop PCs; QuickTransit Server is used for large-scale datacenter consolidation projects; and QuickTransit Legacy is a specialized version for application re-hosting from very old legacy hardware running operating system versions that are no longer supported.

Transitive is a leader in cross-platform virtualization, and its award-winning QuickTransit technology is built into more than 12 million computers worldwide. QuickTransit allows software applications that have been compiled for one processor and operating system to run on systems with different processors and operating systems, without any source code or binary changes and at speeds comparable to native ports. As a result, QuickTransit allows IT managers to quickly and easily replicate legacy enterprise applications from the original hardware and run them on modern, standardized platforms without incurring the costs and delays of porting projects, and without disruption to end users. This workload replication helps enterprise customers improve business continuity, including superior disaster recovery, scalability and high-availability solutions.

Transitive's cross-platform virtualization technology is the foundation for Apple's Rosetta translation software (built into Apple's Intel-based Macintosh computers) and also for PowerVM Lx86, which is available for all IBM Power Systems enterprise servers. Transitive Corporation is located in Los Gatos, California with a research and development team in Manchester, UK.

News: Search Engine, Delver.com, Develops Socially Connected Solution
News Related to the Web Hosting Industry

San Francisco, California - (Website Hosting Directory) - July 25, 2008 - Search firm, Delver.com, has developed an alpha version of what it describes as the first true social search engine, delivering comprehensive web search results, ranked according to their social relevance.

Using a mapping connection technique, Delver organizes and ranks publicly displayed content, found on social networking profiles, web sites, blogs, bookmarks, and photo and video sharing sites from the user's online social network. A 'breadcrumb' is shown next to each result, showing how that result is related to the user, thus qualifying its relevance.

Liad Agmon, CEO of Delver noted, ''Delver is designed to 'delve' into your online social graph to generate search results gathered from your friends, your network and your friends' networks, to help you find information more relevant to you as an individual. We prioritize results based on your network to make Web search more fun and meaningful, while enabling you to discover others in your extended network who share common interests.''

Delver also gives users the ability to tap into the content and network of people whose opinion they value by adding them as 'Search Buddies'. Delver prioritizes results from 'Search Buddies' and their network as if they were the users' friends. Furthermore, Delver provides a number of features for organizing and retaining the information found as a result of a search query. When results are yielded, user's may choose the 'keep it' option, which stores the selected links in the appropriate categories for compiling lists or easier reference later on.

Though Delver.com is in an early stage of product development, it demonstrates the great potential and necessity of social search. Delver currently covers Myspace, Blogger, Flickr, LinkedIn, Youtube, Hi5, FriendFeed, Digg and Delicious; other sources, such as Facebook and the top blogging platforms will be added to the service over the next few months.

Delver is simultaneously launching a partner program whereby sites hosting or containing user generated content can easily integrate Delver search technology to greatly improve their users experiences on the site while also increasing monetization from sponsored search results.

First announced at DEMO 08 in February, Delver is the first social search company that improves the relevancy of Web search results by prioritizing these results based upon the searcher's social network. The company's patent-pending technology maps users' social connections and delivers web search results ranked according to their social relevance to the users. Delver is headquartered in Herzliya, Israel and will open U.S. offices in Silicon Valley in summer 2008. Delver is backed by Carmel Ventures, a top-tier Israel-based VC.
