News: 1&1 Internet Web Hosting Firm, Expands Bandwidth Network
News Related to the Web Hosting Industry

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - (Website Hosting Directory) - January 22, 2008 - Webhosting company, and subsidiary of United Internet, 1 and 1 Internet, has completed a comprehensive extension of its wide area network (WAN), with an overall bandwidth of more than 120 Gigabit per second.

For the first time, 1 and 1 is connected directly to a large Internet Exchange point outside of Europe at Equinix in Chicago. The development means that the external connectivity of the world's largest web host has tripled over the past twelve months.

Andreas Gauger, Chairman of the Board, 1 and 1 Internet Inc., noted, ''With the upgrade of our Internet bandwidth, our millions of web hosting customers in Europe and the U.S. can be sure that their content will reach Internet users worldwide even faster and more reliably. As a result of multimedia applications like video streaming, the demand for bandwidth has grown enormously over the last few years.''

The data volume transmitted from 1 and 1's data centers has in fact nearly doubled over the past year from 3,500 Terabytes (3.5 million Gigabytes) in January 2007, to 6,500 Terabytes in December 2007.

Mr. Gauger added, ''The continuous upgrade of 1 and 1's data network shows that despite pessimistic forecasts from some, the boundaries of Internet growth have not yet been reached.''

In November, U.S. research company, Nemertes, warned in a well known study that Internet infrastructure might no longer supply the growing demands of private and business users over the next 3 to 5 years. With its latest network upgrades and further measures planned for 2008, 1 and 1 feels well prepared for continuously growing demand.

Over the next year, 1 and 1 will focus on extending its U.S. network. In Chicago, at Equinix, 1 and 1 is for the first time connected to a large Internet Exchange point outside of Europe. In March, 1 and 1 will more than double the external connectivity of its Lenexa, Kansas data center. With more than 600,000 customers, 1 and 1 is presently the fifth-largest web host in the U.S. market.

Besides the upgrade of its wide area network, 1 and 1 has also made changes to its underlying technology. Instead of SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy), now Ethernet technology - well-known from corporate and home networks - is being utilized.

Mr. Gauger added, ''Ethernet can be handled more easily, and by switching to powerful routers from U.S. based manufacturer Foundry Networks, we can even save money. 1 and 1 benefits from an additional cost saving potential through the network extension, as data streams can be distributed optimally through new peerings and routing alternatives.''

1 and 1 was established in 1988 and hosts more than 9 million domain names, with over 7 million customer contracts, 9 million domains and 81 million email accounts. The company's U.S. headquarters is located in Chesterbrook, PA. 1 and 1 features an array of services, from instant domain packages to all-inclusive shared hosting plans, dedicated servers and ready-to-run eShops. 1 and 1 is a Microsoft Joint Development Partner, and works with other paramount companies such as Google, Plesk, Symantec, and HP/Compaq.

News: Search Engine for IT Utility, Splunk, Releases 2008 Forecast
News Related to the Web Hosting Industry

San Francisco, California - (Website Hosting Directory) - January 22, 2008 - IT Search company, Splunk, has released information indicating 2007 forecasts of over 500 customers, a growing partner program, and major new product releases.

Splunk announced results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2007, revealing that it exceeded its sales forecast for the quarter by 35 percent and achieved 133 percent of its forecast for the fiscal year. Splunk ended the year with more than 500 enterprise, service provider and government agency customers. During the quarter, Splunk added more than 100 new customers and upgraded 40 customers to higher data indexing levels.

The three most active industries contributing to the quarter were financial services, online services, telecommunications and government agencies. New customers include Bear Stearns and Company Inc., Orbitz, AT and T Wireless and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Splunk's partner ecosystem continues to account for a growing percentage of the company's business. More than 25 percent of fourth quarter sales were through OEM, system integrator and resale partners. New partners added during the quarter include Radware, Voltage and Penguin Computing. The fourth quarter also saw the introduction of the Splunk Preview release program giving customers early access to product features and functionality. The goal of the program is to provide an early view of new product and encourage user participation in the product development process.

The first two releases included transaction search and change identification, as well as the preview of Splunk for Microsoft Windows. Splunk 3.1 also became available in the fourth quarter. Major product milestones in 2007 included Splunk 3.0 and Splunk for AIX, both made available for general download in the third quarter. Delivered only 15 months after the last major version, Splunk 3.0 takes IT Search beyond the scope of log management and troubleshooting with interactive reporting of search results, dashboards and personalization, as well as an expanded search language with new statistical and arithmetic operators. Splunk for AIX allows customers running mission critical AIX applications to dig into everything happening at every layer of their AIX systems from one place with Splunk.

Michael Baum, CEO and Co-Founder of Splunk remarked, ''Until now, it made sense to manage data centers in silos -- break it down into manageable pieces, get the right point tool for the right job and move through distinct operational areas. But tremendous amounts of data, complex web applications, and virtualization have broken out of the silos, are crashing into compliance and security issues, rendering point tools limited or useless, and merging operational and business considerations that previously stood alone. To solve these problems customers need the ability to integrate any IT data from all their applications, servers and network devices into a broader view -- not just to make sense of the data, but transform it into valuable information assets.''

Splunk is a Silicon Valley company inventing large-scale, high-speed indexing and search technology for IT infrastructures. The company's IT Search software indexes and makes it possible to search and navigate data from any application, server or network device in real time. Logs, configurations, messages, traps and alerts, scripts and metrics. More than 500 enterprises, government organizations, and service providers and more than 150,000 users are utilizing Splunk.

News: Web Hosting Company, eMonsterhost, Deploys .MOBI Web Site Builder
News Related to the Web Hosting Industry

Green Bay, Wisconsin - (Website Hosting Directory) - January 21, 2008 - Web hosting provider, eMonsterhost, Inc., is offering the WebSite Tonight product, providing key features designed to facilitate the .MOBI transformation.

The new application is designed to allow anyone to design and create a .MOBI-compliant web sites easily and affordably. Pages designed for .MOBI are optimized for on-the-go devices, making them easy to load and navigate from the smaller, more limited screens of wireless phones and PDAs.

According to recent reports, 100,000-plus .MOBI domain names were registered during the first four days of the Landrush period beginning Sept. 26. General registration opens up to the public on Oct. 11 when even more registrations are anticipated. To put the excitement into perspective, it took more than 10 years for other top-level domains to garner 100,000 registrations in the early days of the Internet. The fast popularity of .MOBI registrations may support estimates by Yankee Group, an industry analyst, that the mobile data services market could reach $698 billion in yearly sales by 2009, according to a recent CNNmoney.com article.

Companies large and small and across all industries can embrace the power of the .MOBI top-level domain. Using WebSite Tonight offered by eMonsterhost, users can easily create Web sites that are formatted specifically to provide on-the-go mobile content and services. For example, web sites that are .MOBI compliant are designed with content and graphics suited for a two-inch screen rather than a 17-inch desktop monitor. Long download times and excessive scrolling can be a thing of the past.

Other enhancements to WebSite Tonight include calendar control, photo album enhancements, animated splash pages with sound, music and video support and an expanded workspace.
