Virtual Private Network, Multi-Homed Firewall Patents, Granted to GraphOn

U.S. Patent 7,249,376 describes multi-homed firewalls that include the ability to dynamically update Domain Name Service (DNS) mappings. Dynamically updating DNS mappings provides for enhanced transparency for users of a network, allowing them to navigate a complex network without having to know about the existence of the firewalls that protect the network.

U.S. Patent 7,249,378 applies to a dedicated DNS server associated with firewalls that are used to form a VPN. The patented technology allows for the creation of virtual private networks wherein two remote machines communicate securely, regardless of the degree of proximity or separation, in the same manner as though the machines were on the same local area network.
