(Active Server Pages)A Web page that contains programming code written in VB Script or Jscript. It was developed by Microsoft starting with Version 3.0 of its Internet Information Server (IIS). When the IIS server encounters an Active Server page that is requested by the browser, it executes the embedded program. Active Server Pages are Microsoft's alternative to CGI scripts, which allow Web pages to interact with databases and other programs. Active Server Pages use an .ASP extension.
